Description
Product description for Chandon de Briailles Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru “Les Lavières” rouge 2018 (bio)The Pinot Noir comes from the Premier Cru Les Lavières vineyard in Savigny-lès-Beaune. The municipality is located about three and a half kilometers northwest of Beaune and, with 383 hectares, boasts one of the most extensive vineyards in the region. The Premier Cru Les Lavières vineyard is located towards Pernand-Vergelesses. Domaine Chandon de Briailles owns 2.61 hectares at the heart of the 17.66-hectare vineyard, which is named after the lavés, flat limestone boulders that were formerly used as roof tiles in Burgundy. The vines are around 50 years old and planted in a south-southeast facing soil consisting of a mixture of sandstone, sand, and marl, with ferrous oolite in the upper part and reddish-brown, crumbly limestone in the lower part. Spontaneous fermentation took place in a wood-clad cuvée with a fairly high proportion of whole-bunch grapes. The wine was then transferred by gravity into barriques and tonneaux with a small proportion of new wood. This was followed by around 14 months of aging without further movement or racking. Bottling took place with a minimal amount of sulfur, mostly directly from the barrel.

Spontaneous fermentation took place in a wooden cuvée with a fairly high proportion of whole bunches. Colour
Medium cherry red
Nose
The Pinot Noir from the single vineyard Les Lavières in Savigny-lès-Beaune has a ripe and intense aroma. It is initially reminiscent of peonies and violets before developing a fruity and spicy flavour. Red and dark berries, fresh and compote-like, play a role here, as do sweet cherries, a few sour cherries, and a hint of blood orange. The aroma is rounded off by fresh yeast dough and forest floor.
Palate
On the palate, Les Lavières presents itself entirely in the tradition of the vineyard: juicy, soft, silky, and slightly lactic. The 2018 vintage, however, possesses more fullness and power than the somewhat more delicate 2017. The tannins are ripe and polished, the stalks bring slightly cool and ripe green notes into play, the acidity is typically ripe yet grippy, clear, and straight. The palate features wild berries, especially blueberries, which taste as fresh as if they had just been picked in a Swedish forest. The long finish becomes slightly salty and even a little peppery. Les Lavières is a masculine, slightly earthy Savigny-lès-Beaune, full of energy, minerality and density.
