Product description for Boris Champy Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune rouge, Altitude AOP 2020 (bio)
Information about the Wine
For this wine, Boris Champy used Pinot Noir from two different plots: En Bignon in Bouze and Le Clou in Nantoux. The soil of both plots is characterized by red loam and white clay with a high marl content. Some of the vineyards were planted in the 1980s with a vine density of over 10,000, some using Guyot and some using Lyra training. This year, Boris Champy used 50% whole bunch grapes, gently extracting the grapes, and aged the wine in foudres for twelve months, with 15% in new oak.
Colour
Transparent ruby red
Nose
Boris Champy’s Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Altitude 2020 is incredibly fresh and fragrant, with notes of sour cherries, cinnamon cherries, raspberries, and juicy plums, as well as a hint of orange zest and vanilla. The wood used by Champy is of the highest quality and very discreet, yet with an exclamation mark.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is delicious, lively, clear, and fresh from the very first moment. It is characterized by red and dark berries, cherries and a fresh, vibrant blood orange fruit, as well as some cranberries. This is combined with the stunningly elegant wood and a hint of black berries, which, together with the tannins, provide firmness. It is an almost electrifyingly lively tonic Pinot Noir with a fine salty finish, a wonderful acid structure and plenty of energy, sophisticated yet uncomplicated, balanced and a Burgundy in the best sense of the word.

Wine Advocate
Score: 90
From young vines and lots that are declassified from Champy’s top bottlings, the 2020 Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Altitude offers aromas of sweet red berries, cherries, petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a supple, seamless profile, it already offers charming, demonstrative drinking.

Vinous
Score: (89-91)
The 2020 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune “Altitude” includes 50% whole bunch this vintage. Dark berry fruit, touches of undergrowth (damp moss on an autumn day), this is beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit on the opening, fine acidity, a little spicier towards the elegant finish. Vivid and energetic.
