Wine Info

Harvested on August 25th. Fermentation began: approx. 40% whole bunch, partially crushed, approx. 60% directly pressed. After five days, the grapes were racked, pressed, and placed back into a 13 hl wooden barrel as a single fermentation batch. There, the wine completed fermentation, underwent malolactic fermentation, and then aged on the full lees for approximately 11 months. It was bottled unfiltered in August 2022.

Color

Intense golden yellow.

Nose

The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc LUI XXI presents itself with a beautiful reduction on the nose, with stony and earthy aromas reflecting its earthiness. After decanting into the carafe, Boskop apples, apricots, vineyard peaches, and wild herbs such as sage, fennel, and pepper emerge. A wine that promises excitement, depth, and complexity.

Palate

Vivid freshness and plenty of play on the palate, where it presents itself with a subtle saltiness and simultaneously juicy creaminess. Power without weight simply applies here. You have to be careful not to simply drink this wine, which is only available in limited quantities, even if the flow, the delicate spiciness, and the low alcohol content of 11.5% vol. This is a reimagining of South Tyrolean wine, and especially Sauvignon Blanc. Bravo to Alois Lageder and team.
