A. Domine, December 21, 2020: This single-varietal Sciaccarellu is fermented in concrete tanks and conical foudres, followed by weeks of maceration with pigeage and pumping over. This rather light-coloured red is aged for a year in the foudres and demi-muids, followed by several more months in tanks. Production: 3,000 bottles. Intense aromas of red and black currants on the nose. Elegant fruit on the palate, silky tannins, good tension, and a finely spicy finish.

Colour

Intense, bright ruby red, light rim, and fairly transparent.

Nose

What spice bursts from this Corsican monument. The 2020 Monte Bianco is characterized by juniper, allspice, and green pepper. Forest floor, undergrowth, and ethereal pine cones and branches, along with tree resin, provide ample contrast to the spices and restrained fruit. Sweet cherry, plum, and mulberry only emerge with difficulty from behind all these loud aromas. A hint of cocoa adds dark accents. Lovage, sage, and oregano, and especially dried thyme, add distinct herbal notes.

Palate

This spicy sip of wine awaits with great anticipation. It begins taut and cool, making it appear elegant and delicate. The fruit reveals itself in a much smaller, berry-like and more acidic way than initially expected. I find this very positive and conducive to the flow of the drink. It can thus wonderfully showcase its juicy core. Alongside the fine fruit, it has plenty of room to express its coolness and minerality. Stony, almost barren, it leaves you wanting more on the palate. The spicy, especially ethereal nuances reappear in a pleasant form in the aftertaste.
