Information about the wine

The Emilio Valerio winery is located in Tierra Estella, the coolest subzone of the northern Spanish DO Navarra. It cultivates around 40 hectares of vineyards according to biodynamic criteria, spread across 70 plots. Limestone and sandstone soils and vineyards at altitudes of up to 700 meters are the defining terroir characteristics. For their entry-level wine, “Emilio Valerio,” they complement the main variety Garnacha with Tempranillo, Graciano, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. This type of cuvée, made from native and international grape varieties, is typical of the Navarra region bordering France. The vineyards are located at altitudes of 400 to 670 meters, and the average age of the vines for this red wine is 40 years. The wine was aged for one year in a combination of concrete tanks and wooden barrels.

Nose

The Emilio Valerio 2020 smells of cherries and currants, underpinned by an almost cool minerality. The nose is attractive and clearly contoured, whet your appetite for the first sip.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is characterized by vital acidity, fresh fruit aromas, and a silky texture. This is a full-bodied, full-flavoured red wine, but by no means too broad or opulent. Rather, it maintains its tension, has a juicy finish in the mouth, and is accordingly a pleasure to drink. It is certainly also a versatile food accompaniment.
