Product description for Zehnthof Luckert Maustal Riesling Großes Gewächs 2021 (bio)
This Riesling comes from the Maustal vineyard, a four-hectare vineyard located south of Sulzfeld am Main, facing south and southeast. The steep slope is characterized by barren and skeletal Upper Muschelkalk. The vines were planted 36 to 42 years ago. As always at the Zehnthof Luckert winery, the grapes are harvested and destemmed by hand, allowed a somewhat longer maceration period, and fermented spontaneously. Luckert’s wines are matured in classic double-barreled Spessart oak barrels.
Light straw yellow
The Maustal Riesling opens with taut notes of ash, tobacco, rock, and petrichor, herbs, and a slightly creamy and slightly citrusy note. Added to this are a few nuts, some mustard seeds, and a touch of grapefruit zest. With air and warmth, a few additional juicy stone fruit notes emerge.
On the palate, the Riesling retains this taut and cool impression, which is further emphasized by acidity and minerality. The wine practically presses itself onto the palate, appearing bone dry and grippy, salty and citrusy. This is a pure, uncompromising Grosses Gewächs (Great Growth), yet still surprisingly charming. Perhaps this connection is created by the fine creaminess, the melting quality, and the floral notes that the Maustal simultaneously contains.
