Wine Information

Kühn’s portion of the Hallgartener Jungfer lies directly above the Doosberg at around 220 meters above sea level. The soil is erosion material from the Rheingau Mountains with a high quartzite content, mixed with loess clay. Slightly inclined to the southeast, the vineyard is somewhat cooler than the Doosberg. The vines were aged in specially purchased Stockinger wooden barrels. The wine ages in the same barrel every year, so the wood influence is barely noticeable.

Nose

The Riesling from the 2020 Hallgartener Jungfer has a phenolic and extract-rich aroma with a hint of hops, tobacco, and some sweet yeast. Fragrant floral notes of peonies underlie this. Ripe grapes are present in the aroma, as are apples and apple skins. The resulting texture is very dense, yet juicy and inviting.

Palate

On the palate, this Großes Gewächs is sensual, silky, juicy, and salty, with ripe fruit of apples, pears, some stone fruit, and ripe lemon. Despite its creaminess on the palate, the Riesling appears taut and firm, with extract and a firm grip. The degree of casualness that this elegant wine brings is impressive. While many GGs appear decidedly austere and pure, the Jungfer is precise on the one hand, but pleasantly full-bodied on the other, with plenty of juice and outstanding length.
