Chandon de Briailles wines that do not come from their own vineyards are sold under the name “François de Nicolay.” In 1998, a winegrower friend offered François de Nicolay the opportunity to sell him his grapes from a top vineyard. Given the quality offered, he couldn’t resist, but he also didn’t want to mix the grapes with those from his own vineyard. So he founded his own line. From then on, he purchased organic grapes from winegrower friends, aged the wines in the Chandon de Briailles cellars, but marketed these wines under the name François de Nicolay. He now produces wines from the best vineyards in Burgundy that are comparable in quality to the wines from his own domain. This allows him to round out and complement his own product range.
