Product description for Celler Credo Ambvivalent 2018 (bio)

Information about the Wine

This unique orange wine comes from the red Xarel.lo, a type of “intermediate grape” that, like Pinot Gris, develops a pinkish skin during ripening. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the red Xarel.lo was only cultivated on 271 hectares in Spain in 2022. This means the variety occupies significantly less land than its relative, the white Xarel.lo, which covers more than 10,000 hectares of vineyards in Catalonia. The producer, Celler Credo, is none other than the Corpinnat winery Recaredo. The 2018 Ambivalent comes from biodynamically cultivated grapes. The wine was fermented on the skins for ten days, was not fined, was not filtered, and only minimally sulfurized. The result is a complex, interesting, and drinkable wine.

Colour

Red gold, slightly cloudy

Nose

The Ambivalent 2018 has a very refreshing, slightly tart nose with stimulating herbal notes and apple aromas. The aromas are very precise, clean, and clear.

Palate

On the palate, the wine feels very fresh, well-structured, and grippy. It is delicately spicy and aromatic throughout — from the opening to the long, stimulating finish. The Ambivalent 2018 is also drinkable in the best sense of the word: It dries so beautifully that you wish the bottle were larger than 0.75 liters. The wine has only 11% alcohol by volume, but is far from a lightweight; it is also full-bodied and complex. The overall picture is absolutely astonishing and contradicts the cliché of the (over)ripe and opulent wine from the hot Mediterranean.
