Product description for Boris Champy Santenay, Petit Aigle AOP 2020 (bio)

Wine Information

For this wine from the Négoce Petit Aigle range, Boris Champy purchased an Ecocert-certified organic Pinot Noir from Santenay, the southernmost appellation of the Côte d’Ôr. Boris Champy destemmed around 70% of the grapes, meaning there is a portion of whole bunches. He fermented spontaneously, extracted gently, and aged the wine in tonneaux for ten to twelve months before bottling it without filtration.

Colour

Quite intense garnet red

Nose

Boris Champy’s Petit Aigle Santenay 2020 opens with a touch of volatile acidity, so it’s time to pour it into a decanter. Then herbs and rock come to the fore, along with dark, ripe fruit of black and sour cherries, plums, and a few sloes, combined with a touch of wood and firm dark chocolate.

Palate

On the palate, the Santenay is silky and juicy, with plenty of dark fruit lining the palate. The wood is used discreetly, and the acidity branches out into the dark fruit, providing liveliness. It appears ripe and round. The tannins are also present; they have largely melted away and provide charm and roundness. The wine is not deep or complex, but very charming and pleasing.
