Product description for Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Häuserer 2020 (bio)
Olivier Humbrecht: The Clos Häuserer vineyard is located just below the boundary of the Grand Cru Hengst in the Wintzenheim district, where the slope is less steep to the east. The soil is a hillside colluvium, meaning the marl-limestone-sandstone parent rock from the Oligocene is covered with a good meter of marl and clay from the overlying hill. This deep, ferruginous terroir ripens slowly in a warm, early mesoclimate, protected from the winds by the surrounding hill. The Riesling still retains very good acidity, and the wine from this Clos is distinguished by its aging potential.
This 1.2-hectare Clos, planted by Léonard Humbrecht in 1973, produced healthy, ripe grapes in 2020, resulting in a wine that took a year to complete its fermentation!
Brilliant golden yellow.
The 2020 Riesling Clos Häuserer presents itself juicy and full of complexity, with ripe apples, vineyard peach, candied ginger, lime blossoms, and a cool limestone note defining its opening. A wine that immediately captivates you, leaving you eagerly awaiting the first sip.
This juiciness is also found on the palate, combined with gripping saltiness and brilliant acidity, underscored by a chalky intensity. A wine that you’re tempted to enjoy immediately, but one shouldn’t underestimate its immense aging potential! Another true masterpiece from Humbrecht! If you want to enjoy it now, be sure to decant it over several hours and serve it in a sufficiently large glass. A few days of opening will allow it to develop its full potential.

The Wintzenheim 2020 Riesling Clos Häuserer is from a warm setting below the grand cru Hengst with marly soils topping the limestone rock. Very intense but pure and iodine-like on the nose, this is a full-bodied, silky-textured, very elegant, saline and finely tannic Riesling with lots of power, richness and a dense texture. With moderate 13.2% alcohol, this is a fresh but somewhat narrow and caged Riesling with some astringency on the finish. It was bottled with 6.6 grams per liter of residual sugar and a natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2022.
