Product description for Trapet Père & Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée “1859” 2021 (bio)
Jean-Louis Trapet in Gevrey-Chambertin and his wife Andrée Trapet in Riquewihr essentially lead a double wine life with two exemplary biodynamically managed vineyards, a red one in Burgundy and a white one in Alsace. Both share an almost philosophical attitude to winemaking: “From the first buds to the harvest, the grapes are accompanied, but never forced.” Andrée’s credo is: “People or winemakers come and go. What remains is the soil! We are just passing by!” This shows how closely she is connected to her Alsatian homeland. That’s why she couldn’t be dissuaded from continuing to run her parents’ vineyard in Alsace. She commutes between Gevrey and Riquewihr and ensures that excellent wines are also produced in Alsace under the name Trapet.

Score: (91-93)
The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée 1859, the cuvée introduced in 2019 to celebrate the arrival of the Trapet family in Gevrey, comes from two parcels planted just after phylloxera. It has a beautiful bouquet with perfumed red cherry and wild strawberry fruit, touches of pressed rose petals and crushed stone. Very well delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-chiselled tannins, sapid and lively, very focused with a tensile, slightly gourmand finish. This is very promising. _x000D_
