Information about the wine

This single-plot wine from the DO Ribera del Duero is made from 75% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 25% Merlot. The grapes are organically grown, and the vineyard is located at an altitude of 930 meters, on the so-called “Paramo,” the plateau above the Duero Valley. In the past, there was a high risk of frost at altitudes above 900 meters. The grapes also did not always ripen fully. Today, however, these cool sites are among the best and most sought-after in the entire growing region, as they contrast with the intense sunlight during the day and generally produce fresher, more vibrant musts. The limestone soil in this plot is also typical: the higher you go in Ribera del Duero, the more limestone the sites usually contain. Bodega Felix Callejo ferments the grapes in concrete tanks, and the wine is then aged for 18 months in 500-liter oak barrels.

Nose

The bouquet offers aromas of blue and black fruits such as blueberry and blackberry, accompanied by an earthy minerality. The nose is fresh and balanced, appearing very clear and elegant with a high intensity.

Palate

The clear and elegant impression continues on the palate. The Finca Valdelroble 2021 presents itself with a silky, velvety texture and fine tannins. The influence of the Merlot grape variety is noticeable in the overall soft mouthfeel. Added to this is the dark fruit, which is ripe yet fresh. The acidity is medium, but high and lively enough to give the wine the necessary tension. It’s full-bodied and powerful on the palate, juicy and well-structured. The oak is superbly integrated (better than in many other Riberas), and the finish is long and delicately spicy. This red wine combines flow with depth. Excellent!
