Information about the wine

The Aphros wine line is the work of winemaker Vasco Croft in the Portuguese wine-growing region of Vinho Verde, which translates as “green wine.” If you ask in the region, no one can say for sure whether the name refers to the predominant colour of the landscape there or to the wines themselves, which used to often have an unripe “green” appearance. The latter is no longer the case since climate change, even though Vinho Verde remains an Atlantic region par excellence. Vasco Croft practices biodynamic viticulture, which is not a given in this rainy region and cannot be valued highly enough. The Aphros-Ten is made from the Loureiro white wine grape, which, along with Alvarinho, is the star of the growing region and produces crisp white wines with plenty of texture.

Colour

Light greenish-yellow

Nose

The Aphros-Ten 2023 offers a refreshing, bright nose with floral and citrus aromas. A kind of stony minerality in the background creates a nice contrast and adds depth.

Palate

This white wine is typically untypical Vinho Verde. Typical because it has crisp acidity and low alcohol. Untypical because it doesn’t have the bubbly sweetness of most commercial wines from the area. Instead, it is dry, with a silky texture and medium body. It’s not an overly complex or long wine, but it is stimulating and aromatic, superbly drinkable, and excellent for its price.
