Product description for Maisulan Sobremoro 2019 (bio)
The Sobremoro is a single-varietal Tempranillo. The fruit comes from Viñaspre in the Rioja Alavesa. The Sobremoro vineyard is located at an altitude of 580 meters. It has stony, ferrous clay soil with limestone. The 45-year-old vines are trained as goblet bush vines in the vineyard. After being hand-picked and sorted, the grapes were destemmed and fermented spontaneously for 20 days at a maximum temperature of 25°C. The wine was aged for 18 months in second-fill French barriques.
Slightly transparent purple
The restrained and fine use of wood is noticeable in this Tempranillo, which from the outset imparts a warm, slightly cinnamony, and muscat-like note to the ripe red fruit. Wild strawberry compote, some red currants, raspberries, and some black cherries characterize the fruit, which is accompanied by sweet tobacco, a touch of leather, and dried herbs.
On the palate, the wood is more present than in the other single-vineyard wines. Yet here, too, it is elegant, supportive, deep, and refined. The tannins in this wine coat the palate, still slightly astringent, but already very fine-grained. The acidity testifies to the perfect harvest time in the relatively high-altitude plot. This is a dark-fruity wine of ripe berries with a sensual appearance and finesse, as well as a cool vein that makes the Rioja very complete and inviting.
