Wine Information

The Bret brothers cultivate a two-hectare plot in the “La Bonnode” vineyard in Saint-Véran. It is located at an altitude of 250 m and faces east. It lies below the Roche de Vergisson and consists of clay on limestone. The vines are 35 years old. The harvest took place by hand on August 29 and September 3, 2022. This was followed by whole-bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation. The Chardonnay was then aged for 17 months, initially in concrete vats and, after blending, in neutral cuvées. The wine was lightly sulfurized before bottling. The total sulphur content is 39 mg/l. The wine has a pH of 3.28.

Nose

The 2022 La Bonnode Ovoïde is the third of four variants from the La Bonnode vineyard this year. The Chardonnay from the concrete egg once again impressively demonstrates that it makes sense and is fun to taste all three wines side by side. On the nose, it appears more restrained, less citrusy and nutty, but more refined and elegant in its balance of bright fruit, light creaminess, and subtle chalkiness.

Palate

On the palate, the Ovoïde presents itself as usual, precise and balanced, with significantly more creaminess than La Bonnode and La Bonnode Cuvée Zen. The concrete egg has given the wine a different texture, offering a very finely polished surface. Although the acidity initially presents itself differently and seems more subtle, it quickly becomes apparent that it also possesses considerable power and punch, creating an electrifying tension. It remains present until the long finish, combining with the mouthwatering saltiness so typical of Brittany wines.
