Product description for Forgeurac Riegelberg, Badischer Landwein 2020
Riegelberg is a wine characterized by a unique terroir. The vines grow on red granite, in a very steep vineyard that is densely planted and has a very thin topsoil. After just a few centimeters, you reach pure rock. The vines are old and deeply rooted.
The wine was made from 50% whole bunches. The grapes were briefly foot-mashed in small wooden vats, and fermentation on the skins lasted about three weeks. It was then pressed in an old basket press. The wine was drawn off via the Broquereau using gravity pressure. Aging took place exclusively in used wooden barrels, primarily barriques and pièces. No yeasts, enzymes, fining, or filtration were used. Depending on the vintage, a maximum of 30 mg of sulphur was added.
Muted garnet red with violet reflections.
The aromas that flow from the glass are deep and dark. They combine blackberries, blueberries, rowanberries, and sloe with notes of forest floor, tree bark, truffles, and various floral scents reminiscent of violets, ivy, and wild roses. This wine is a true work of art that is still in the early stages of its development. It appears mystical, intricate, and profound.
On the palate, the 2020 Riegelberg reveals subtle fruit sweetness, a juicy appearance, invigorating acidity, and a firm yet fine-grained tannin structure. It still has a lot in store and will develop into greatness with further maturation. It goes particularly well with intense dishes with a rustic touch. Decant and enjoy slightly chilled from Burgundy glasses.
