Product description for Diel Riesling Burgberg GG 2022
The high proportion of quartzite on the primary rock of the Rotliegend gives the VDP.Grossen Lage BURGBERG a pronounced spiciness, smokiness, and deep minerality on the finish. Its kettle-shaped wine, framed by Permian rocks, is reminiscent of the structure of an amphitheater. Gentle pressing of the grapes. Fermentation and long aging with natural yeasts in multi-year-old barrels from local oak forests.
Light golden yellow with distinct green reflections.
The 2012 Riesling Burgberg Großes Gewächs from Schlossgut Diel presents itself as a beautiful purist. Aromas of cool stone and graphite open the wine, and only after prolonged contact with oxygen do fruity nuances of lime, wild raspberry, and Clavaillon melon peel emerge. A wine that appears calm and composed.
Power and finesse go hand in hand, pleasantly attacking the palate with a piquant note and pronounced acidity. Its length and precise acidity and spiciness are impressive. A wine with “cool” finesse that offers great potential for development. Dishes with fish, mussels, and seafood are a definite trump card.

The 2022 Riesling Burgberg GG is deep and intense on the nose that shows ripe and overripe, seriously concentrated, lemony and herbal/floral notes of lemon and pink Riesling fruits. Aged in stücks for one year and another year in stainless steel, this is a tight and savory, quite firm and still quite tannic, long and stimulating bitter-finishing Riesling compared to the other GGs of the vintage chez Diel. The wine is generously textured, saline and full of grip and mineral tension. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Burg Layen in February 2025.

The 2022 Riesling Dorsheimer Burgberg Grosses Gewächs opens with ripe, juicy yellow pear and dried pear flesh, later developing a minty lift. The palate still has a yeasty vibe with a core of lemon brightness. The heart is all lemon, zest and pith, lending brightness and structure. This needs time to unfold. (Bone-dry)
