Product description for Clemens Busch Riesling Marienburg Grosse Lage “Rothenpfad” Reserve 2020 (bio)
The “Rothenpfad” parcel (above the railway viaduct opposite Pünderich) is part of the current Marienburg site. The soil here is very light and based on very soft, weathered red clay slate. The particularly steep site has no access to a road, thus precluding the use of machinery. This means that the vines are not compacted by heavy machinery, thus providing ideal conditions for healthy root growth.
For the RESERVE bottling, Clemens Bush selects a “Fuder” of Grosses Gewächs quality. This wine is aged in barrels on the full lees for at least 24 months. Following this particularly long lees aging, the wine is drawn off the lees and bottled unfiltered.
Light and sparkling golden yellow.
The 2020 Marienburg Riesling “Rothenpfad” Reserve captivates the nose with aromas reminiscent of ripe oranges, lime, pineapple, candied apricots, honey, and fragrant blossoms. The whole is underpinned by a complex minerality and refreshing herbal notes. A distinct slate spice beautifully frames the overall picture.
On the palate, it presents itself charmingly with a delicate fruit sweetness that interplays beautifully with the refreshing acidity. A true long-distance runner that will develop wonderfully over the next few years. If you want to enjoy it now, choose savory dishes with sweet influences for a successful pairing.

The 2020 Pündericher Marienburg Grosses Gewächs Rothenpfad Reserve is released after two years on gross lees and a further year of bottle age. It shows its savor tenderly on the nose, yet there is the fern-like, yarrow-like spice. The palate comes in with power and saltiness. A creamy aspect appears on the mid-palate; fruit is starting to recede, leaving the rock to speak. Very salty. Beautifully long and intense. (Bone-dry)
