2020 Vinhao tinto consists of 100% of the indigenous Vinhao grape variety. It is cultivated organically, and the grapes are harvested by hand. The must is treated in the traditional way in lagares, ancient granite vats, and stomped with feet. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with natural yeasts.
Dark cherry red, with slight cloudiness and violet reflections.
The nose reveals clear accents of reduction. This makes it appear incredibly lean and bursting with finesse. The delicate 11.5% ABV would suggest nothing else. The harsh Atlantic climate is also clearly evident. It seems like a red wine far removed from warmth, fruit, and concentration. In a pleasantly cool way, it presents us with sour cherry, raspberry, and cassis. Never overloaded, not even remotely overripe. The fruit is contrasted with abundant sea spray, oyster shell, and a touch of fresh seaweed. Fresh herbs provide ethereal accents, while black olives lend dark, warm moments. Using a narrow carafe is certainly helpful in revealing the fruit more quickly.
It develops its true strength when served slightly chilled, at around 12-13°C. 2020 Vinhao exhibits an enormous number of lean, cool, and racy characteristics. The fruit appears as if wrapped in silk. Incredibly elegant and delicate. Its cool nuances ensure freshness and a proper flow. It practically dances across the palate. Playful and delicate. With its juicy, acidic character, it doesn’t leave the glass full for long. The fruit in the finish is enormously influenced by a beautiful sour cherry.
