Description
The Vinyes d’en Gabriel, Gabriel’s vines in other words, go back to Joan Rofes, who acquired the Casa Gabriel de Dármos in the 19th century and planted the first vines. Joan was the great-grandfather of the current owner Josep-Maria Anguera. The vineyards have remained in the family and the family has managed to avoid the use of chemicals throughout the years. Since Josep-Maria Anguera founded the Vinyes d’en Gabriel winery, he has increasingly cultivated the vineyards according to biodynamic principles. In the meantime, his pride and joy are the up to 95-year-old Carignan, Grenache, and Syrah vines, which stand amidst almond and olive groves at an altitude of 150 to 250 metres. The soils are characterised by lime, chalk, gravel, and clay. In addition to the l’Heravi series, Anguera now produces Mans de Samsó, a top wine made from ancient Carignan, which is called Samsó in the local dialect.
