Colour

Intense, bright cherry red with a dark core.

Nose

It develops intensely and darkly. In its youth, the fruit still takes up a lot of space – but this will shift over the years. Morello cherry, sour cherry, and blackberry are worth mentioning. Violets provide delicate elegance. The Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée 1859 from 2022 rests absolutely within itself. It seems a bit like a sleeping giant, who doesn’t want to reveal much yet. Behind the fruit, fine roasted aromas emerge, as well as the spice of juniper berries and bay leaves. Deep and subtle – never overly pretentious.

Palate

The first sip confirms these impressions and the metaphor of the sleeping giant. The fruit glides gently across the palate. Its acidity vibrates patiently in the background, knowing that its strengths will only emerge years later. The fine-grained tannins linger at a stealthy pace with its delicate fruit and acid structure. This tranquility is also conveyed through its balance. It flows elegantly over the lips, allowing its greatness to shine through. The finish showcases fruit and spice in equal measure.
