Description
Product description for Thomas Morey Beaune 1er Cru rouge Beaune-Grèves AOC 2023
At 31.33 hectares, Les Grèves is the largest Climat vineyard in the heart of Beaune. The wines are considered the richest, most structured, and also the longest-lasting in the appellation. The Moreys have owned their vineyard since 1969. The rows of vines stretch over 450 meters up the slope, where the terrain transitions from sandy to gravelly soils. The Pinot Noir vines were planted partly in 1976 and partly in 1988 from a mass selection. The largely destemmed grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts in a combination of neutral barrels and tanks. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally. The proportion of new wood is around 20%. Sulfur is added only during the last six months in the barrel, and this is done several times with minimal doses, so that the wine never reaches a total concentration above 35 mg/l.
Colour
Medium, transparent ruby red
Nose
Thomas Morey’s 2023 Beaune-Grèves 1er Cru smells so wonderful and stimulating, you’ll immediately want to raise the glass to your mouth. But no, you should linger for a long moment and enjoy the aromas of primarily dark raspberries and cherries combined with stone, cinnamon and perfectly integrated wood, light hints of tar and game.
Palate
On the palate, the Beaune-Grèves 1er Cru presents itself as juicy and clear, sensual and silky, with fine, muted tannins, again a hint of tar and ripe fruit with a certain delicacy, fine acidity, and a slight sharpness in the finish. The wine is ready to be enjoyed now.
