The red Visan Marius from Vincent Rochette is a blend of Grenache and Syrah. The approximately 60-year-old vines are located in Visan in a three-hectare, very dry vineyard characterized by clay and limestone. The rock content here is 60%, and the yield is approximately 25 hl per hectare. The wine is spontaneously fermented and aged for twelve months in 50-hectoliter foudres made of Tronçais oak.

Nose

The Cuvée Marius from Vincent Rochette, formerly known as Le Père Mayeux, is a bold, rather masculine Visan with distinct Syrah hints of olive tapenade, some smoked meat, and dark fruit notes of blackberry and sloe. However, the Grenache also contributes, revealing hints of raspberries, licorice, and cinnamon. Overall, the wine appears powerful, balanced, and ripe.

Palate

The juiciness is confirmed on the palate, where the Marius combines the aforementioned fruit and spice with tart notes of fermented cardamom, dried herbs, and a touch of dark tobacco. The tannins are ripe, firm, and present, the acidity clear and cool through to the long, juicy and slightly tart finish.
