Description
Product description for Rémi Jobard Bourgogne Côte d’Or Vieilles Vignes AOC 2020 (bio)
Late Release. Rémi Jobard is a recognized new schooler in Meursault. For around 30 years, the vineyards have been exclusively organically fertilized, and in 2008, certified organic farming followed. Jobard’s guiding principle is the calcareous soils of Meursault, which he seeks to bring out through careful aging. Instead of small 228-liter barriques, Jobard uses 600-liter Stockinger barrels. The wood isn’t used for its own sake, but rather for the slow oxygen exchange. This aging results in crystalline wines with profound minerality and a delicate texture. The Bourgogne Côte d’Or category is a recently introduced new appellation. It limits the production zone for these wines to the core of the Côte d’Or. The vineyards for this wine all come from sites bordering Meursault, two of which are located directly below the 1er Cru Charmes. The late release matured for two additional years in Jobard’s cellar.
Colour
Medium-bodied straw yellow with green reflections.
Nose
A conglomerate of blossoms, stone fruit, herbs, and minerality ties up this grab bag, which blossoms further with increasing aeration in the large glass. Orange blossom and white lilac combine with green apple skins, joined by sorrel and borage, crushed oyster shells, and wet blackboard chalk. Shimmering with a transparent core and fine vibration.
Palate
Rested, generous, open-hearted, and immediate on the first sip. Not a promise, but a direct fulfillment of its identity, powerful with a distinctive bass and pulsating pressure. Distinctive ripeness, powdery phenolics, and distinctive minerality puff up the cheeks and are underscored by delicate white fruit such as white nectarine and currant. The cooling acidity is accelerated by its saline nature in the ethereally long finish.
