Product description for Nikolaihof Vom Stein, Riesling Federspiel trocken 1989
Late Release 2024
Origin
The Mauterner Ried “vom Stein” is a so-called “Ried within a Ried.” It belongs to the Ried “Silberbichl” and borders the “Zaum” vineyards in Mautern and “Am Zaum” in Furth. The site covers a full 4.2 hectares and extends north-northeast from 209 to 237 meters up the slope. The vineyard is characterized by riprap soils with clay, loess, and Danube gravel. Wine Advocate
Score: 88
The golden-yellow colored 1989 Ried Vom Stein Riesling Federspiel is clear, pure, fresh and intense on the aromatic yet also slightly flinty nose that reveals ripe and sun-tinted stone fruit aromas. On the palate, this is a light, fresh and matured Riesling that reached its peak a while ago and won’t become any better from here. Structurally rather weak, it has stimulating salinity and fine grip yet no power or intensity. It’s a respectable Riesling to be enjoyed with lighter dishes, preferably freshwater fish or lighter yellow curries. 11% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Archive Release 2024. Tasted in January 2025.
