Description
Product description for Nikolaihof Hefeabzug, Grüner Veltliner trocken 2022 (bio)
Wine Information
Before bottling, the wine was aged on the fine lees for six months. It is the house’s lightest Veltliner. The grapes come from vines rooted in clay, loess, and paragneiss. The wine was spontaneously fermented and bottled in April 2023. In addition to 11.5% alcohol by volume, it has 2.5 grams of residual sugar and 5.4 grams of acidity. Color
Bright medium straw yellow.
Nose
The Grüner Veltliner yeast draw is characterized by apple blossoms and green apples, some lemon and lime combined with herbs and a hint of blond tobacco. At first glance, it appears young and fresh, bright and delicately fragrant, with only light yeast notes.
Palate
The palate confirms the sensation of liveliness, brightness, and precision. The Nikolaihof wines give the impression that they are at least one level above the quality stated on the label. This is also the case here. The Hefeabzug, the winery’s youngest Veltliner, seems so complete and has so much structure that it’s hard to believe its youth. But then you notice this wonderfully silky yet lively acidity, this playful lightness, these notes of young apple and citrus fruits, garnished with a zesty finish. This wine offers a great deal of enjoyment.

Vinous
Score: 88
The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Hefeabzug is exactly the same wine as the Zwickl, i.e. harvested in Mautern and Stein and vinified in stainless steel, just filtered and clear. While it has varietal Grüner Veltliner fruit and primary notions of pear, it is less textured and does not seem quite as fresh as its unfiltered, lees-scented sibling. The same mild freshness makes it fruity and smooth. (Bone-dry)
