Wine Information

Les Herses is a two-hectare clay and flint vineyard in Ménétreol-sous-Sancerre. Planchon owns 0.98 hectares of Les Herses – some of which are planted with Pinot Noir – with a southeast exposure. The Sauvignon Blanc vines are on average 45 years old, planted at a density of 7,700 vines per hectare, and yield around 50 hl/ha. After being hand-picked, the grapes are slowly pressed in a pneumatic press and left to settle for approximately 36 hours at a temperature below 10°C. Fermentation then takes place spontaneously, 70% in stainless steel tanks and 30% in 500-liter barrels. Aging on the fine lees takes place in the same tanks, for a period that varies depending on the year. On average, it takes ten to twelve months. Bottling then takes place according to the lunar cycle.

Intense straw yellow

Nose

The Les Herses 2020 presents itself open and inviting from the outset. It is reminiscent of jasmine, honeysuckle, and white tea combined with a slightly exotic note of pineapple and a hint of guava. Added to this are citrus notes and—most noticeably—herbal and rocky notes with a touch of petrichor and a hint of mint.

Palate

On the palate, the Sauvignon Blanc is juicy, ripe, and powerful, with a clear depth and complexity in the fruit, combined with a creamy texture and a very light influence of wood. A blend of flowers, white currants, crisp apples and pears, stone, and smoke emerges. The acidity is precise and clear. It characterizes the wine, which, despite its power, never seems too opulent, but always polished and leads to a long, intense and elegant finish.
