Information

The Bourgogne Rouge comes primarily from Saint-Romain vineyards that are at least 30 years old. It is largely of Bourgogne quality, but a small portion also comes from declassified village vineyards. The vines are located at an altitude of around 400 meters above sea level. After hand-harvesting, partial destemming and spontaneous fermentation took place in stainless steel vats, followed by a mixture of pigeage and remontage, i.e., punching down and overflowing of the pomace cap. Malolactic fermentation took place spontaneously in the barrels. Aging lasted for ten to twelve months in a mixture of 228-, 350-, and 500-liter barriques, as well as in tonneaux, of which no more than 10% are replaced annually. The wine was tasted daily, and the barrels were racked whenever Frédéric Buisson deemed it appropriate. It was fined with bentonite and only very coarsely filtered. Sulfur was added during bottling, with a maximum of 40 to 50 mg/l total sulfite.

Nose

This wine is a Bourgogne Rouge as one would wish. It sets a pretension, but is uncomplicated and straightforward; it appears inviting and open-hearted. The 2021 vintage offers notes of ripe wild strawberries, raspberries, and black cherries, a touch of vanilla, and at the same time, subtle earthy notes of peat and dried wood.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is juicy and fresh, but also slightly silky. The fruit is dark and ripe, but also crisp in parts, with a hint of sour cherry. The acidity is lively, distinctive, but not demanding, and the tannins are present and fine-grained. The Bourgogne appears pure, vital, and inviting, with good length and plenty of body.
