Information about the wine

The wine comes from the Achkarrer Schlossberg, which is characterized by black volcanic soil (tephrite). The plots are secured by dry-stone walls up to 4 meters high. The 20- to 30-year-old vines come from a mass selection. It was fermented spontaneously to 1.6 grams of residual sugar. It was aged for 18 months in French barriques with 35% new wood.

Nose

The Schlossberg Spätburgunder is an extremely juicy, dark-fruity wine, highly complex even on the nose, yet fleshy and deep. At the same time, it is not at all overloaded, but rather precisely crafted, lively, juicy, and inviting. A haze of smoke and roses, nuts, and an elegant wood spice hangs over the ripe, dark cherry fruit.

Palate

On the palate, this is a wine whose acidity and tannin structure already seem so integrated that you’ll struggle to let it sit for long, even though doing so will add dimension. This is already a great German Pinot Noir, finely crafted and dense, deep and long, with a concentration that doesn’t seem strained at all, but rather relaxed, as if everything came together quite naturally.
