Wine Information

This is a white wine with extended skin contact. It is a blend of 75% Grenache Blanc and 25% Rolle (Vermentino). The 3.5-hectare vineyard is planted with Grenache Noir and Grenache Blanc. The soil is characterized by limestone gravel and galets roulés, not quite as extensive as in Châteauneuf, but with high quartz content. The Rolle grapes come from a 70-year-old vineyard on a hill with limestone scree. The soil there is loose and permeable and was already farmed organically before purchase. After the hand-picking, the grapes were crushed, the juice was left on the skins for around 14 days, and then pressed with a small basket press. The juice fermented spontaneously in steel tanks and then aged for 18 months in used French 600-liter barrels. The wine was then bottled unfiltered and unfined with a small dose of sulfur.

Color

Intense, amber-orange.

Nose

As bright as the 2023 Pierre qui Rolle presents itself in the glass, it is just as fragrant, intense, and at the same time elegant. Like a mixture of khaki, oranges, and kumquats, including peel, peaches, and mirabelles, with a hint of beeswax and herbs.

Palate

On the palate, the 2023 vintage once again delights with its fine, elegant texture, reminiscent of velvet and silk, combined with a very fine surface reminiscent of sandpaper. Added to this are these ripe, orange fruits, a touch of vanilla and licorice, some equally fine tannins, and a ripe, lively acidity. It’s simply lovely to drink—orange, but not taxing.
