Peter Müller: Powerful! Yet delicate. The 2015 Cornas Billes Noires from Domaine du Coulet presents itself with a proud, powerful presence. After a brief, heated confrontation between tannins, acidity, and alcohol, they find their place, as well as the realization that they can only achieve their greatness through togetherness. Like the three guys who, after beating each other up in front of the bar, spend the best evening of their lives in that very same bar. Hard shell, soft core. A versatile Brutus of a wine. Must be served slightly chilled, at 16°C, from large glasses.

Colour

A rich, sheer black purple with a violet rim and opaque core, the wine appears clear and brilliant in the glass.

Nose

The multi-layered aroma of this Syrah from Cornas von Matthieu Barret exudes arrow-straightness and precision. Alongside sweet cherry, elderberry, lingonberry, and cranberry, it reveals fruit paired with spice, like a blood orange studded with cloves and long peppercorns. The aroma of a steak, passionately kissed by the flame, awaits promisingly with barbecue sauce.

Palate

First drawn, like a bow, then the arrow hits the spot. The meticulous precision of these aromatic staterooms is enchanting. Despite all its steely power and expressiveness, the 2013 Billes Noires avoids heaviness and overpowering excesses.
