Description
Dominique Derain was born in Beaune in 1955 in the famous Hospice de Beaune. After various stays throughout Burgundy and diverse studies, he turned to the profession of winemaker after five years as a barrel maker. Even as a child, he dreamed of making his own wine. Over a period of ten years, he gained experience at various wineries. In 1988, he finally acquired a vineyard in St-Aubin. This was the beginning of the domaine, which is still based in the village’s old rectory. After a personal meeting with Maria Thun, the idea of biodynamic cultivation matured in him, which he then implemented on his domaine. Together with Mme. Lalou Bize-Leroy from Romanée-Conti, Dominique Derain was the first biodynamic winegrower in Burgundy.
