Wine Information

Auxey-Duresses lies in the heart of a valley that begins in the Côte de Beaune and winds its way through the Hautes-Côtes along the Route de La Rochepot and Autun. The appellation is located on the border with Meursault. The Moulin aux Moines vineyard is one of the domaine’s three Monopol sites. The Vieilles Vignes des Monopols area was planted in the 1950s in the upper part of the Clos, where the terroir has a different composition of limestone marl, is steeper, and drier. The area covers 0.90 hectares and lies at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level. The grapes were harvested by hand at a yield of 38 to 44 hl/ha. The spontaneously fermented wine was aged in Burgundy pièces and tonneaux without any new wood. Around 10% was fermented with stalks.

Colour

Slightly transparent, intense ruby red

Nose

The aroma of the 2019 “Moulin aux Moines” Vieilles Vignes Monopole is dark, with notes of undergrowth, forest floor, mushrooms, foliage, and a touch of fermented cardamom and tobacco. There are also slightly yeasty notes, wild berries, and dried cherries.

Palate

On the palate, the Pinot Noir is juicy, firm, and serious, with a slightly sweet core, around which dark, slightly earthy, and stony notes swirl. The wine has plenty of structure, a tannin that offers fine resistance, and a clear acidity. As always, there is a light, Pommard-like flavour, which suits the wine very well.
