Wine Information

This is the winery’s entry-level Sancerre, called Calcaire Mosaïque since the 2022 vintage. It comes primarily from limestone-dominated sites such as Les Boucauds, Les Chasseignes, and Les Denisottes, with Terres Blanches and Caillottes. The wine was spontaneously fermented in stainless steel and then aged for seven months, partly in stainless steel and partly in used, larger oak barrels.

Light lemon yellow

Nose

The Sancerre called Mosaïque Calcaire is an aromatically bright and pleasantly citrusy wine. This year, it appears more powerful and less yellow-fruity than last year. Instead, it is reminiscent of citron lemon and some lime peel, grapefruit and pineapple rind, white blossoms, and some moist lichen on wet rock.

Palate

The Sancerre is a pleasure on the palate. I also enjoy Riffault’s more luscious vintages, but this one is also fast-paced, powerful, citrusy, and stony on the palate. Expressive Sauvignon notes are barely present here, neither in the grassy nor the exotic notes. It’s a rocky wine with a tight structure, lively acidity, freshness, and finesse.
