Description
The development of Battenfeld-Spanier is unparalleled in Germany. As if from nowhere, a young winemaker appeared at the end of the 1990s and presented wines from a corner of Rheinhessen that no one had on their radar. No one had heard of Hohen-Sülzen before. Hans Oliver Spanier, actually just called H.O., was and is still convinced that great wines have an origin, and so he has built up one of Germany’s best wineries through continuous development. The numerous awards, including “Winemaker of the Year” 2018 (Vinum – Wine Guide), underline the exceptional quality of the wines. Working organically from the beginning and now biodynamically, H.O. Spanier can certainly be described as the vine expert. In the meantime, Battenfeld-Spanier cultivates parcels in the great vineyards of the Wonnegau, such as the KIRCHENSTÜCK, FRAUENBERG and the ZELLERWEG AM SCHWARZEN HERRGOTT.
