Wine Information<\/h5>\n

The Clos du Ch\u00eane Vert lies on the right bank of the Vienne, not far from the center of Chinon. The vineyard extends to the top of the hill. The Clos is named after the enormous oak tree that dominates the vineyard and is said to have been planted by monks from Bourgueil in the 12th century. The vineyard itself covers two hectares and is much steeper than the Clos de la Dioterie. The soil is characterized by clay, lighter pebbles, and deep limestone. Due to the vineyard’s location on the opposite bank of the Vienne with a southerly exposure, this is always the one where the harvest begins. The Cabernet Franc undergoes a cool pre-fermentation at 10\u00b0C for ten days. The must fermentation in wooden vats lasts around four weeks at temperatures not exceeding 21\u00b0C. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, the free-run wines and the best press wines are blended for malolactic fermentation. The French oak barrels are partially replaced each year, so that around a fifth of the barrels are new and one to four years old. The vintages then mature for 15 to 16 months in wood, a further six months in tanks for harmonization, and then bottled. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

Subtle, still shy and reserved, this is clearly a Clos du Ch\u00eane Vert that is just at the beginning of its development. It begins chalky and cool, minty and ethereal, then becomes increasingly floral with notes of violets and a few currants, including leaves and stalks. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

On the palate, you get a first impression of the depth of this Chinon, which is only just beginning to develop. A Chinon in the making: it will be refined and elegant. The 2019 wine, from the geographically opposite Clos de la Dioterie Monopole, probably produced the more hedonistic wine, while the Clos du Ch\u00eane Vert produced the more noble Cabernet Franc.<\/p>\n

The 2019 Clos du Ch\u00eane Vert Monopole has purity, freshness and precision. It is not as upright as it was more than a year ago when last tasted, as it has since opened up, broadened and lost its youthful rawness. That said, it remains focused and fresh, with an abundance of chalky tannins that coat the mouth. Expect florals, black cherry and integrated oak-derived mocha and spice flavors that remain on the long, lithe finish.
