Wine Information<\/h5>\n

Christoph Raffelt 7.12.20: The Cabernet Franc vines are 45 to 55 years old. The vines are planted in loamy, silty soil on sandstone, as well as in red flint on tuffeau (limestone). The yield is 40 hl\/ha. The grapes were harvested by hand in 12-kg crates. They were destemmed and fermented over 30 days with only occasional pumping over. The wine then aged for 12 months on the fine lees in Burgundian pi\u00e8ces aged five to seven years. The cuv\u00e9e then matured for a further six months in individual barrels. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

Pure Cabernet Franc successfully combines dark fruit with wild spice and fleshy attributes. On the nose, mulberries, cassis, violets, and licorice fight for aromatic supremacy. Surrounding it are a multitude of dark berries and stone fruits, such as plums, blackberries, blueberries, and damsons. The fruit appears very densely woven without conveying heaviness\u2014and that is the art of finesse. Cinnamon, cloves, and anise provide a generous helping of spice. A light breeze of lovage, rosemary, and thyme sets the herbal final chord under a successful nose. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

Here, the 2019 Cabernet Franc from Clau de Nell comes across completely without tannin. Dense, dark fruit on the palate, wrapped in silk in the glass. Cool, full of finesse and elegance. It sits juicy in the glass and delivers a generous portion of wine. Red peppers \u2013 both cooked and raw \u2013 clearly characterize the finish. The floral notes also emerge clearly again. Despite all the fruitiness, it thrives on a gripping acidity and a cool structure. Absolutely fleshy and bloody at the same time, in the very best sense.<\/p>\n
