The Huet family first visited the village of Vouvray in 1928 and was so impressed by the property that now forms the winery, including the five-hectare Le Haut-Lieu vineyard, that they acquired both and founded the Huet winery. Le Haut-Lieu lies on the Vouvray plateau and is characterized by deep brown clay with a little flint and chalk in the topsoil. The topsoil is called aubuis locally. The bedrock consists of yellow tuffeau limestone and lies four meters deep. The 2003 vintage comes as a 20-years-after release directly from the winery&#8217;s treasure trove. <\/p>\n<h5>Colour<\/h5>\n<p> Dark, slightly brown golden yellow <\/p>\n<h5>Nose<\/h5>\n<p> From the outset, the Le Haut Lieu Moelleux \u00bbPremi\u00e8re Trie\u00ab 2003 offers impressive volume and a broad aroma of candied oranges and orange peel, grapefruit, quince, dates, and figs, a hint of ginger, and a significant amount of mocha, salted caramel, and cardamom. <\/p>\n<h5>Palate<\/h5>\n<p> On the palate, it quickly becomes clear that the wine comes from a warm, concentrated, and sunny vintage. The Le Haut Lieu Moelleux \u00bbPremi\u00e8re Trie\u00ab 2003 appears even denser and more voluptuous here than on the nose. It fills the palate wonderfully with its fruit and almost syrupy consistency. Here, too, the fruit aroma combines with plenty of mocha, white nougat, and caramel.
