Wine Information<\/h5>\n

The Haut-Lieu is the vineyard that is the origin of the Huet winery. The Huet family first visited the village of Vouvray in 1928 and was so impressed by the property that now forms the winery and the five-hectare Le Haut-Lieu vineyard that they acquired both and founded the Huet winery. Le Haut-Lieu lies on the Vouvray plateau and is characterized by deep brown clay with a little flint and chalk in the topsoil. The topsoil is called aubuis locally. The bedrock consists of yellow tuffeau limestone, and this lies four meters deep. The 2003 vintage is being released as an anniversary wine, 20 years after the harvest. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

The Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux 2003 comes from a hot vintage. But while other wines from 2003 have long since passed, here you get the feeling that it’s only now coming into its own. Dense fruit from very ripe pears, apples, and quinces, oranges, and grapefruit await you. This is complemented by quince paste, ginger, and orange zest. Above all, the wine smells of blossoms, rocks, and lime zest, and is therefore fresh. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

On the palate, the wine already has a very dense, almost oily texture, and there is also a taste of ripe, yellow-fleshed fruit wrapped in cream and pastry. But here, too, the Moelleux almost magically takes a turn toward piquancy and freshness. The acidity remains thoroughly ripe. It is the tart, savoury notes that give the Chenin Blanc its freshness. In any case, the whole thing is a feast that is half a meal in itself, but can be a congenial accompaniment to various other meals.<\/p>\n

From another early, low-acid vintage, the golden shining, botrytis-free 2003 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux Premi\u00e8re Trie shows a beautifully intense, extraordinary clear, refined and elegant bouquet of ripe fruits intertwined with mineral flavors \u2013\u2013 fascinating! Sweet, intense and delicate on the palate, this highly elegant and lovely concentrated Chenin is of great purity, balance and finesse. Its length is impressive, its generous flow is extremely sensual and its overall intensity and accessible generosity are absolutely gorgeous. This 2003 is great today, but will probably even more fascinating in 50+ years. The balance and drinkability is superb. Highly recommended.
