Wine Information<\/h5>\n

The Clos du Bourg lies above the church of Vouvray and comprises six hectares of vineyards surrounded by an old stone wall \u2013 hence the name “Clos.” It is one of the oldest Grand Cru parcels in France, first mentioned in the 7th century. The vineyard’s shallow soil consists of clay with flint and chalk inclusions. It is located on a typical Turonian tuffeau limestone cliff. Here, the vines reach the tuff after just one meter. The harvest began in 2022 on September 8th (the second earliest date in the winery’s history) and ended six weeks later (the harvest workers have never harvested for so long – this year there were 24). Since heat waves and drought led to very heterogeneous ripening grape material, all variants of Chenin Blanc could be produced, from the base wine for P\u00e9tillants to 1er Trie. As usual, the grapes were meticulously sorted, pressed, and spontaneously fermented during the many harvests. Malolactic fermentation only took place in exceptional cases and in individual barrels. The wine was aged in used demi-muids. The Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec 2022 has 18 grams of residual sugar. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

The 2022 Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec appears juicy, creamy, and Silky with full fruit reminiscent of ripe, partly crisp, partly crumbly apples, pears, and quinces. Juicy and also slightly tart notes of kumquats are added. A touch of smoke and white blossoms round out the overall picture. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

On the palate, the Vouvray provides a full, round, rich, and deep entry with plenty of yellow fruit from apples and pears. The fruit appears ripe and beautiful. The juiciness is enormous, and it is clear that this will all develop further and become deeper in the coming years. But even now, this is a beautiful wine with a supporting acidity and a wonderful blend of depth and lightness. It is extremely seductive, and as so often in recent years, you don’t know how you can force yourself to allow this wine several more years of bottle aging while simultaneously denying yourself this pleasure for so long.<\/p>\n

The 2022 Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec is round and appealing, akin to a cozy night in with your slippers on; there’s flesh and succulence, but it retains its shape and a sense of lightness on its feet. The ripeness of white stone fruit reminds me of nectarine and a heady floral character reminiscent of honeysuckle, even verging jasmine. And yet, it shows its pedigree in its fine texture and line.
