The vines are planted on calcareous Oligocene rock, with a south to southeast exposure \u2013 particularly in the upper parcels where the Pinot Gris grows. This site, overlooking Clos Jebsal and Brand, benefits from late evening sun during the ripening phase in August and September. 2023 was a vintage perfect for the Pinot grape varieties and produced exceptionally healthy and ripe grapes. A long, even fermentation and aging on the full lees in young wooden barrels ensured structure, density, and clarity. The vines are on average 38 years old, and the yield was 52 hl\/ha. Bottling took place in January 2025. <\/p>\n<h5>Colour<\/h5>\n<p> Golden yellow with old gold reflections. <\/p>\n<h5>Nose<\/h5>\n<p> The 2023 Heimbourg Pinot Gris from Zind-Humbrecht presents itself as closed, dense, and complex on the nose. It smells a lot, but is elusive, not fragmentable\u2014so you swirl and wait until a crack opens up in the matrix. Best served with a large glass, because this Pinot Gris has great potential and needs space. Slowly and calmly, it reveals the aromas of a Pinot Gris, only somehow on steroids. Not exuberant or exaggerated, yet powerful and distinctive. Red apple, spices, and nutshells, the foundation of wet stone after a warm summer rain. <\/p>\n<h5>Palate<\/h5>\n<p> It shines on the palate with a remarkably firm drinkability, something you wouldn&#8217;t necessarily expect from a Pinot Gris. With only 0.6 g\/l of residual sugar, it is bone dry and plays solely on extract, not sugar or primary aromas. With solid minerality, it has a profound, saline bass on the palate with precise punch and a long, lingering finish.
