Product description for Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Roche Calcaire 2023 (bio)<\/p>\n

The Riesling Roche Calcaire comes from several small plots around Gueberschwihr, south of Colmar. The vineyards face east and south and are deeply rooted in calcareous, partly marly, partly siliceous soils. This combination ensures a stable water supply \u2013 a clear advantage in the hot summer of 2023. Flowering was rather difficult due to the heat, reducing the yield to just 30 hl\/ha. However, the geological conditions played to their strengths: the limestone lends the wine power and volume, while the deep soils ensure a taut, present acidity \u2013 when young, the wine can seem almost austere, but this is precisely what predestines it for long aging. Aging on the full lees until January 2025 brings additional structure and finesse. The vines are on average 49 years old. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

The nose of the 2023 Riesling Roche Calcaire from Zind-Humbrecht is characterized by the warm vintage and reveals itself with full ripeness on a spicy foundation. As is typical of the variety, its aromatics are at their maximum, and its full phenolic ripeness focuses on the terroir. Characterized by mild spices, pickled ginger, beeswax, and linseed oil, the fruit here is more of a supporting actor. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

In contrast to its expansive nose, the palate is taut with fleshy extract and a firm bite. The aromas reflect the nose; tart and spicy, it is contoured by the ripe phenolics on the tongue, and slims down with increased velocity on the finish. A vertical type with a powerful approach and a bone-dry character. A lot of wine for little fuss.<\/p>\n

The 2023 Riesling Roche Calcaire was harvested across the limestone soils of the estate from vines that do not make it into the single vineyards. In 2022, this was restricted to the marl and limestone soils of the village of Gueberschwihr, mostly facing east, from cooler vineyards. Subtle smokiness hints at the delicious reduction that still weaves through the wine. This is taut, lemony, long, streamlined and tightly coiled\u2014a wellspring of freshness. (Bone-dry)
