About the wine<\/h5>\n

Olivier Humbrecht: The Humbrecht family’s birthplace is in the village of Gueberschwihr, from which this wine comes. It comes from many small vineyards scattered around the village, all of which share limestone soil. Limestone is often associated with marl or richer elements, making such vineyards much more drought-resistant. This is a clear advantage in hot and dry vintages like 2022: the vines grow easily and are able to maintain acidity. The soils here are also quite rich. Calcaire often means tighter, leaner wines with higher acidity, but also Riesling wines that have great aging potential. These soils also have a better metabolism, which can be seen in the 2022 vintage. A very warm year, yet this wine still has an acidity and pH often found only in colder vintages. Long fermentation, full lees contact until bottling, a completely dry wine. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

The limestone is very present in the nose of this precise Riesling, cool and interwoven in the aroma. Green apple, lemon, fresh ginger, a wonderful radiance and freshness announce themselves. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

On the tongue, the 2022 Riesling Roche Calcaire is fruity with stimulating acidity and a salty note. Saliva immediately begins to flow, perfectly stimulating the appetite. With further maturation, its complexity and facets will intensify. Very good aging potential. If possible, decant and enjoy from large glasses.<\/p>\n

The 2022 Riesling Roche Calcaire is harvested across the limestone soils of the estate from vines that do not make it into the single vineyards. In 2022, this was restricted to the marl and limestone soils of the village of Gueberschwihr, around the Goldert Grand Cru, a site that Humbrecht calls “virtually drought-proof.” The nose still flickers with yeasty funk and lovely, flinty reduction, but even this funkiness does not obscure the vibrant lemon and orange peel. The palate is fresh but so buffered, with stunning limestone smoothness wrapping itself around a central vein of bright freshness. This is lip-smacking and approachable. It’s friendly and bright already. The finish shines with a tart yellow apple. (Bone-Dry)
