Wine Information<\/h5>\n

Olivier Humbrecht: The Zind-Humbrecht winery produces only a single red wine, on a very small 0.32-hectare plot in the Heimbourg vineyard in Turckheim. This west-facing Pinot Noir ripens slowly on red Oligocene limestone soil (rich in iron) and develops a fine aromatic profile. Due to the high planting density (10,000 vines\/ha) and pruning close to the ground, the grapes are very small and grow almost at ground level. In 2021, the vines failed to produce any grapes (powdery mildew), so in 2022, well-rested, they produced a decent harvest. With a high planting density (9,000 vines and very close to the ground), the grapes were small. The skin-to-juice ratio is always high. The grapes are destemmed entirely by hand on an old-fashioned, perforated wooden board, which also serves as a sorting table. During the two-week fermentation, virtually no manipulation takes place. The wine is transferred by gravity into 2- to 4-year-old barrels. Bottling takes place without filtration or fining. <\/p>\n

Muted garnet red with violet reflections and lightening towards the rim. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

An extremely juicy and seductive Pinot Noir announces itself, with sweet wild raspberries, cassis, black cherries, peonies, and violets on the opening notes. With contact with oxygen, aromas of truffles, forest floor, licorice, and leather emerge, evoking Burgundy perfection. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

Juicy fruit expression on the palate, paired with refreshing acidity, a still pronounced tannin structure, and mineral depth. What a poem, what magic, it’s amazing how the 2022 Pinot Noir Heimbourg has also improved upon the already outstanding quality of the Pinot Noir. A fantastic food companion and a wine worth aging, with tremendous development potential. Adequate aeration will allow this exceptionally fine wine to further enhance its character.<\/p>\n

The 2022 Heimbourg Turckheim Pinot Noir is the only red wine of the domaine, and it’s cultivated on a very small plot of 0.32 hectares that is facing west and planted in high density (10,000 vines per hectare) on iron-rich Oligocene limestone soils. Pruned just above the soil, the grapes grow almost at ground level, and they are tiny. The grapes are picked by hand, destemmed on a perforated wooden board and fermented in an open vat with a few manual punch-downs. The wine is aged in used 228- and 350-liter barrels and was bottled directly without filtration or fining in January 2024.
\nThe bluish ruby-colored red Heimbourg Pinot Noir is clear, fresh and precise in its deep, tart and spicy Morello cherry bouquet that integrates dark chocolate and toasty\/spicy oak aromas. Elegant, fresh and provided with a fine tannin structure, this is an intense, medium to full-bodied, elegant Pinot with tart, dense and authentically aromatic fruit and a clear, cleansing and lively finish that references dark cherries and berries again. The wine is characterized by its Morello fruit and is perfectly balanced thanks to the fine, mineral limestone acidity. The 2022 indicates excellent aging ability. It was bottled unfiltered with 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in November 2024.
