The 2022 AmalGamay from Les vins d&#8217;Ath\u00e9na\u00efs is a cuv\u00e9e of Gamay from Beaujolais and Aligot\u00e9 from Saint-Bris. Whole bunches were used for the Gamay, which then fermented spontaneously on the skins in wooden vats with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by gentle extraction by gentle pumping and punching. The Aligot\u00e9 underwent a long whole bunch pressing, and the must also fermented spontaneously. The entire winemaking process was carried out without additives; the Aligot\u00e9 underwent a light, static cold racking. Both batches were blended during fermentation, and the total maceration lasted two to three weeks. The wine was aged in Burgundy barrels and matured for 12 to 18 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. <\/p>\n<h5>Colour<\/h5>\n<p> Transparent ruby red, bright and clear. <\/p>\n<h5>Nose<\/h5>\n<p> The 2022 AmalGamay from Les vins d&#8217;Ath\u00e9na\u00efs oscillates on the nose between hedonistic red fruit, tart notes, and mild spices. Cherries, raspberries, and wild raspberries outline the almost exalted fruit; camphor and herbal tincture are complemented by bay leaves, allspice, and black pepper. Multi-layered and constantly changing like a kaleidoscope, it always reveals new facets. <\/p>\n<h5>Palate<\/h5>\n<p> Highly energetic on the first sip, it proactively plunges into the throat like a lemming off a cliff. With excellently integrated, fine carbon dioxide from the fermentation, delicate as stardust, it seems to literally glitter on the palate, which fuels its average flow rate. The juicy, tart fruit is accelerated by the tart phenolics that gently wrap around the ripe acidity.
