Information about the wine<\/h5>\n

The Bret brothers source the fruit from 0.4 hectares of Climat En Carementrant vineyards in the Pouilly-Fuiss\u00e9 appellation. This is the third wine, after 2019, following a four-year hiatus during which the grape supplier changed. The vineyard is in its final year of conversion to organic farming. It lies below the Roche de Vergisson at an altitude of 280 meters with a pure south-facing exposure. The 50- to 60-year-old Chardonnay vines grow on very clayey and calcareous soil from the Bajocian region (Jura). Hand-harvested on August 29, 2022, whole-bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation followed by aging for 17 months in used cuv\u00e9es and foudres with 100% malolactic fermentation. The total sulphur content is 15 mg\/l, depending on the barrel; the pH is 3.37. It was neither fined nor filtered. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

The 2022 En Carementrant is a Chardonnay with a slightly smoky and tart character, reminiscent of a mixture of lemons, tangerines, and limes, smoke, crushed flint, and herbs. Added to this are a hint of green pear, white blossoms, and honeysuckle. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

On the palate, the wine is pure, powerful, and again slightly reductively smoky, without this being too overt. Above all, the wine offers a good balance of silkiness and tension, with green-yellow citrus fruit, herbal notes, and crushed lime, salt, a touch of white pepper, and zest. The interplay of acidity and light creaminess is very successful.<\/p>\n

The Domaine’s own team entirely picks the 2022 Pouilly-Fuiss\u00e9 Climat En Carementrant Cuv\u00e9e Zen from organically cultivated bunches and sees no SO2. This is spicy on the nose, with hints of dried honey and stem ginger mixed with rhubarb. The palate lives up to its name, Zen-like and leaner than their other cuv\u00e9es, but maybe I would like more substance towards the finish. It just tapers away a little, and I suspect there might be some TCA here.
