Information about the wine<\/h5>\n

The Imperial is one of the classic sparkling wines of the Pened\u00e8s. It is a cuv\u00e9e of various vineyards and grape varieties, namely the indigenous Xarel.lo, Macabeo, and Parellada, as well as a small portion of Chardonnay. The grapes come from biodynamic, Demeter-certified vineyards. The Gramona winery is part of the Corpinnat consortium and produces the Imperial using the traditional method, with a lees ageing of at least 50 months, but usually longer. A special feature is the dosage: Since 1910, the Gramona family has been producing oxidative wines in a solera-like system, similar to that used in the Sherry region. These complex vintage blends with remnants of very old wines serve as the dosage for the Imperial, which, with 6 g\/l of residual sugar, is in the low Brut range. <\/p>\n

The complex bouquet offers aromas of ripe apples and ripe citrus fruits, along with roasted notes from the yeast aging, smoky hints, and pastries. Overall, the nose is versatile, fresh, harmonious, and highly intense. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

On the palate, the 2018 Imperial is velvety and creamy with a very fine perlage. The attack is lively and fresh with aromas of ripe fruit and apple tart. Over the course, it is full-bodied and mouth-filling, but not opulent, as it flows beautifully juicy and taut through the mouth. The finish is complex and long, showing a great deal of distinctive character.<\/p>\n

The 2018 Brut Imperial, from a cooler and wetter year, was produced with 56% Xarel.lo, 30% Macabeo, 10% Parellada and 4% Chardonnay from purchased biodynamic grapes that matured in bottle for 64 months. It was adjusted to six grams of sugar (lower). It was a cooler year with more rain (some mildew) and fresher and younger wines. It has a fine-boned palate, with some residual sugar. The first vintage of Imperial certified by Demeter was 2016. 600,000 bottles produced.
