Dits del Terra comes from the south-facing slopes of Torroja, which are fully exposed to the sun and naturally stand on slate. At first, that sounds like rich Priorat and not contemporary. Dits del Terra is the opposite. The cypresses cast shadows along the slopes. Whole-bunch fermentation takes place in cement instead of extraction in wood. The wine is allowed to rest for 16 months in Stockinger foudres and cement tanks. The vines are 60 years old and grow at an altitude of approximately 400 meters. With a low yield of 1,500 kg per hectare, 4,000 bottles from 2019 will be filled. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

2019 Dits del Terra clearly represents modern, contemporary Priorat. Far from fruit bombs and jam, Dominik and Tatjana have mastered the art of bottling a Carignan that exemplifies the winery’s new style. Green and black olives hand over the reins to fennel, rosemary, and sage. Earthy, dark nuances are expressed by juniper, green and black pepper, and cocoa beans. Cocoa butter has a moderating effect. It is carried by a greenish, ethereal note that I associate with blackberry bushes. It fluctuates between Darjeeling and Assam. Dark, serious, and full of depth. Woody, wild, ethereal. A hint of slate spice and fresh tar are typical of Priorat. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

On the palate, it takes all of this to its extreme. Cool and full of finesse. Juiciness is reinvented here. Full of density and concentration, without conveying fullness or heaviness. It appears silky and polished, but also leaves room for all its rough edges. The sour cherry comes through much more clearly and effectively on the palate, especially in the finish. It reveals subtle herbal and ethereal nuances, with mint, eucalyptus, and sage leading the way. The earthiness, the finest tannins, and its minerality are simply state-of-the-art. Phenomenal on the palate. The intense notes rise to the surface again in the finish, lingering for minutes.<\/p>\n

The wines are very transparent with the vintage, and the 2019 Dits del Terra shows the openness of the year, a wine that is expressive and aromatic, charming and approachable but still serious and very mineral with fine tannins. Part of the wine matured in oak foudre, making it a little more classical. It has 14% alcohol but feels very balanced, and the alcohol doesn’t show. 4,006 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2020.
