Marian Hen\u00df:On the palate, it hits exactly the same note. The fruit is wonderfully intense on the palate. Red aromas in all facets immediately fill the mouth and throat area and continue to dominate the finish. Les Manyes 2018 is delicate and playful. The 14.5% alcohol by volume is wonderfully integrated. Now it reveals an ingenious linearity. It shoots out as straight as a candle. It has clear substance in the base, but presents itself as a great Pinot Noir. As profound as the night. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

The 2012 Les Manyes from Terroir al Limit, made from 100% Grenache, is very open on the nose with hedonistic fruit. Ripe berries such as raspberries (also as jelly), blackberries, and a touch of elderberry along with black cherries mingle with ethereal notes of thyme, a touch of lavender, and sage. The wine develops enormously with exposure to air, which is why it is recommended to decant it or at least enjoy it from large Burgundy glasses. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

The Les Manyes also cuts a very approachable figure on the palate. Ripe red fruit on the first sip kicks things off. The tannins are delicate, tightly interwoven, and silky in texture. The Les Manyes has a cooling minerality and a fresh, long acidity that makes the wine seem ready to drink even now in its youthful stage. However, those who allow it a few years of bottle aging will be rewarded. Single-varietal Grenache at the highest level.<\/p>\n

Funnily enough, Dominik Huber has only one varietal Garnacha wine, and it’s a top one. The vineyard is in Torroja where the soils are slate and for Dominik slate works better with Cari\u00f1ena, so he sources the Garnacha from elsewhere. The prodigious 2012 Les Manyes is an unusual single-vineyard Garnacha from a 50-year-old plot over the Montsant Mountains, in the Masdeu zone above the Scala Dei Monastery (not in Torroja at all!), where the soils are not the usual slate, but they are clay-rich with a chalk component. The vineyard is really high and surrounded by impressive dry stone walls and constructions, there is even a route to admire these old works of art. The full clusters were macerated and fermented with indigenous yeasts and the wine matured for two years in old foudres from Austria. The nose is high-pitched, very lifted, with a different personality from its siblings, perfumed, with a mixture of flowers and acid berries hints of oriental spices, but more mineral and earthy and less fragrant than previous vintages, with restrained ripeness. The palate mixes that chalky minerality with the juiciness of the Garnacha, a mixture of Mediterranean and Atlantic characters. It gets better and better in the glass, opening up and showing more nuances. Compact, round, terse and serious, it doesn’t show any oak or alcohol, and if you look at the figures the alcohol is only 13.5. Awesome balance. Only 1,500 bottles were filled in November 2014.

(all garnacha, was aged for two years in 500-liter French oak casks): Inky purple. Heady scents of candied dark berries, cherry compote, potpourri
\nand incense, along with a smoky topnote. Sweet and silky in texture,
\nwith deep, palate-staining dark berry and floral pastille flavors enlivened by juicy acidity. Chewy
\ntannins build on the strikingly long finish, which leaves powerful notes of blue fruit and
\ncandied flowers behind. Still a baby but there’s great potential here. This wine was vinified entirely with whole clusters.
